REFLECTION:
Maxim Velcovsky is one of the Czech Republic's leading young artists. Most of his work is in porcelain and involves reimagining everyday objects, but my favorite is a hand-blown glass rendition of a Solo cup called the Fast Cup.
I appreciate Velcovsky's humorous designs, which he attributes to Prague (his home) fleeing the life of a communistic camp and entering into a democracy, where people have the right to choose. He chose to be quirky because for the first time it was his choice to make.
So for your next dinner party, break out the Fast Cup and you are sure to go from frat house to fashion house in a flash.
Most of Velcovsky's designs can be purchased through Qubus, a popular Czech product design web site. Also, a set of 4 is the featured product on Charles & Marie today for $80 (U.S.).
