Mark Price's Anti-Violence Ad
SELECTION:
Mark Price IS a factory. He is a well-oiled maching spuing out silkscreeen prints at a pace that would make Henry Ford proud.

REFLECTION:
I first saw Mark Price's robot-influenced silkscreens on the sidewalk of 2nd and Chestnut Streets at one of Philadelphia's summer First Fridays. I remember the images of James Cameron's "Aliens" racing through my head with each glance towards his work. But I could not look away. I kept examining his prints because there were so many layers of image, text and color to sift through.
Prices uses bold typography to convey his message like a highway billboard and detailed images to reinforce the statement. His work is not easily digestable on first glance, but it is automatically appealing.
The above piece is a 6-color print from a series of 7, on the subject of violence, for Foundation Gallery in Chicago last February. The edition of 19 signed and numbered prints are still available through Market East's web site (online store for Space 1026) for $30. Many of Mark Price's other pieces are available there too, including his first hand printed book "CRAM THIS INTO YOUR LIFE."
According to Price's web site, he will be releasing a second silkscreen printed book "CONSIDER EVERYTHING IN BAD SHAPE" and selected images of the black and white draft pages are available for viewing here. The artwork is almost complete and Price will began the arduous process of printing this 40 page, 7x8, 4-color book this month. So...stay tuned!
